There are none that I know of. Even the major pay sites are also supported by adds. Do a few quick searches, all you find are the big players. If a free site did start performing well it would be bought up and converted to a pay site. The major sites have full time staff dedicated to promotion, new features, marketing, customer service and tech support. With their history, reputation, search engine position and overal traffic, it makes it hard for any startups to really catch up. |
I asked that on this forum about 4 years ago. With that said, I would like to introduce the newly redeveloped and relaunched Bed & Breakfast Browser.
http://www.bbbrowser.com
My vision is the most comprehensive directory of B&B's online with transparent reviews and zero listing fees. The legitimate fee-based directories are good, but in my mind (and I am thinking from the perspective of inngoers, not innkeepers), they cannot possibly include complete detail about every bed and breakfast, because not every innkeeper can or will pay the top membership fee. Our site is free. We want to list every bed and breakfast with as much detail as possible. No gold, silver, bronze, levels. Just fill out our giant form and upload a bazillion photos. That's good for the inngoer.
One other thing is that we will not have a conflict of interest as far as reviews are concerned. What happens when an inngoer is dissatisfied and leaves a 1 star review of a B&B that paid $400 for a listing? We think that what is good for inngoers (a comprehensive, transparent directory) will ultimately translate into leads for innkeepers.
The question then is: how will you make money? Right now we will not make money, but later, when we have established a stream of inngoer traffic, we will monetize the site in a tasteful way using Google AdSense. That's when the fun will start: we will get paid, inngoers will have reviews to read, and innkeepers will benefit from the leads.
With that said, the purpose of this post is to announce the "new" site and ask for feedback and listing submissions. Also it would be helpful to us if you would mention your listing on our site to your guests so they can write a review.
Thank you for looking at this blabber. |
